Mental Health Conditions Summary and Categories

Mental Health Conditions: Good Mental Health involves the ability to cope with life’s ups and downs in a balanced, steady, and rational manner. Professional, social, spiritual, and personal activities need to be kept in a balance conducive to productive daily living. If a person has problems keeping these parts of life balanced, it may be a sign that the person is suffering from a mental disorder. Some of the most common known Mental Health Disorders are Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Anxiety Disorders, Eating Disorders, and Drug or Alcohol Addictions.

On the job: A person with a Mental Health Disorder is particularly affected by stress. Allow the person, if he or she is comfortable doing so, to educate supervisors about changes in mood that may signal the onset of an acute episode. A person recovering from an acute episode of the illness may benefit from a gradual return to work, starting at a part-time level and increasing time and responsibilities to a full-time level as he or she gains strength.
